Happy Birthday Nana JoySee
Dear Reader,
Tomorrow is my mentor and fairy god-mama, Nana JoySee's birthday! So we of course wanted to release another chapter from her book, Our Relationships with Our Children & the Child in All of Us. Nana JoySee has been in practice for over 60 years as a clinical psychologist. Her beliefs are summed up beautifully below:
All of our experiences are relational, and that since our unresolved past still lives in us, we always have the opportunity to change our past in the present... in our current lives today.
This book was inspired by her work helping a client navigate parenting her daughter after her husband died in 9/11 efforts. The character, Twinkle Toes, was inspired by me, during a time when I was mostly working with children. The teachings in these stories are potent and valuable as developmental teaching tools, bedtime stories for your inner child, and for the children in your lives.
This series, available in our Practitioner Membership, highlights the importance of storytelling as a way to preserve history, nurture connections, and honor the invaluable insights of our elders. Through Nana Joysee’s tales, we celebrate the power of stories to teach, heal, and expand our understanding of ourselves and our relationships.
In Chapter 6, Glowie and her friends are playing before school when a boastful moment turns into a competition — and hurt feelings. Just in time, the magical Twinkle Toes arrives with something wonderful that teaches an important lesson: that our gifts are meant to be shared, not used to make others feel small.
This heartwarming lesson feels timely. Many of us are in some level of fear brain and this can trigger feelings of competitiveness and harsh behavior. If we don't tend to these feelings they have a tendency to spill out sideways. May this story help us tend to that inner scared child and remember how important it is to practice kindness & patience, "happily, lovingly… a little at a time."
Also to note, for those of you in our practitioner membership, tomorrow evening is Practitioner's Lab, our once a month learning space. We will be covering the topic, Holding Space During Charged Times.
We hope you find this to be supportive. We only have 2 more spots available in our Practitioner Membership at this first round's price point (one month of support is less than the cost of one therapy session). It is a small closed group of diverse practitioners holding an intention to learn and grow together, both personally and professionally. And if I do say so myself, the support offered is ROBUST including but not limited to weekly 1:1 time with me in office hours, group support, integration practices and multiple libraries of content to help stimulate new ideas for offerings with your clients.

Beyond all polarities, I am. Dear Reader, "Beyond all polarities, I am." — Ram Dass I was at an East Forest show last night at the Rio in Santa Cruz with a group of beautiful humans. Before the show started, we talked about how important it is to just be — to find time to sit. Not with your phone. With the birds. The stars. The trees. The energy of people in the street, or the turkeys in the meadow. (This happened to be a predominant message running through the show, and where the Ram Dass...
